While we are still up to our necks into testing and proofing, we decided to spin off some of our code for the benefit of the R community.

Meet the jobqueue package

The package provides an easy-to-use interface that allows to queue computations for background evaluation while the calling R session remains responsive. So you can use it to do some basic task threading in R. That means: simply move lengthy computations into the job queue on your computer, keep working with R, and pick up the result when it’s ready.

The jobqueue package is hosted on R-Forge and it’s completely free, of course. Visit the project homepage or go ahead and try out the package right away. To install it in R, run the command install.packages("jobqueue", repos="http://R-Forge.R-project.org", type="source") in your R session.
